Bowler going strong while others are gone

From the bowling equipment division of the American Machine & Foundry Co.. comes something to think about.

In 1923 eight of the world's most successful financiers met in Chicago. They were men who had found the secret of making money.
They were: The president of the largest independent steel company; the president of the largest gas company; the greatest wheat speculator; the president of the New York Stock Exchange; a member of the President's cabinet; the greatest "bear" on Wall Street; head of the world's greatest monopoly; and president of the Bank of International Settlements.

In Milwaukee that same year, a champion was crowned at the 23rd ABC bowling tournament.

Star bowler Evelyn Teal, who was born in 1923, did some research and found out where these men were 40 years later.

The president of the largest independent steel company, Charles Schwab, died bankrupt, living on borrowed money for five years before his death.
The president of the largest gas company became insane.
The greatest wheat speculator, Arthur Cotton, died abroad insolvent.
The president of the New York Stock Exchange, Richard Whitney, was sentenced to Sing Sing Penitentiary.
A member of the President's cabinet, Albert Fall, was pardoned from prison so he could die at home.
The greatest "bear," Jesse Livermore, committed suicide.
The head of the world's greatest monopoly, Ivar Krewger, committed suicide.
The president of the Bank of International Settlements committed suicide.

The winner of the ABC singles title in 1923 was Carl A. Baumgartner. In 1963, 40 years after winning his ABC championship, he is still going strong and is an advertising and public relations executive living in Garden City, N. Y.
Mrs. Teal's conclusion - "Stop worrying about money and business - go out and bowl."
